One to watch....Craig Lawrence

Me being a knitwear geek, I was excited to hear there was a presentation by a designer who had not only worked with McQueen, but had been doing Gareth Pugh's knitwear for 6 years. Craig Lawrence really pushed the boundaries of knitwear creating unusual silhouettes in metallic Japanese kyototex yarn, strips of peacock feathers and silver threads. The collection, called 'Siren Mermaids' is based on a 'Fantasy world of mermaids and the seductive mythological creatures of ancient Greece.' Garments had been turned inside out, exposing net like structures underneath the surface, a clever way of interpreting the underwater concept.
Annoyingly, I came near the end of the presentation in Somerset House which meant all but a couple of the models had gone for lunch! The dress that I saw was breathtaking; my pictures don't really do it justice. I just wish I'd got to see all of the looks firsthand. This is someone I will definetely be looking out for in the future......
