Highlights from NYFW.....

I've been saving up images from NYFW of a few of my highlights. VPL is the first, who's colection was based on the idea of suspension. I have had a mixed opinion of shows in New York. Some of them have really interested me, like a few pieces in this collection by VPL (yes, this does stand for Visible Pany Line), whereas others I have found to be repetitive of things seen before. There were athletic inspired silhouettes, layering, drape and garments looked like they were hanging off the body.

I particularly enjoyed the collapsed geommetric idea of the trapeze top, that hung beautifully off the body exposing flesh but not too much. Some looks were too athletic feeling for me, but I liked the combination of the drape and the hint of seeing a sporty bra top. The colour palette was neutral, but the tone of a browney burnt orange was strong enough to make an interesting statement.

On a similar sort of note, Jeremy Laing's collection also featured geommetric, draped pieces, but I think, different from above, pieces that are probably more wearable. Apparently triggered by watching flags outside his office building 'fluttering', pieces hung cleverly on the body while retaining sharp lines.
Along with Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim has been a particular highlight. It was a clever collection that had strong shapes and felt contemporary. I particularly liked the casual element, but it still felt really luxurious and effortless.
There were a range of clever and interesting ideas, but as a collection is still felt really together and wearable. There was a preppy element to it, and I feel like Lim has pulled off his laidback and clean look for another season. His last collection was probably stronger in terms of looks, but nevertheless, these past two offerings from him have made me become more interested.
